What is the best social media platform for your business?

How do you choose out of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat the best space for your business? Should you be on more than one platform and what do you use them for? We’ve put together a small guide that will help you decide where best to set up your social media to engage with your customers.

Facebook

The recommendation for most businesses, at minimum, is to get set up with a Facebook business page. This is especially important for businesses that don’t have a website. A Facebook business page will allow you to give customers information, contact details and insights into your business. It’s the perfect way to create an online presence without the expense of a website. If you do have a website, Facebook is just another platform to drive people to your site, and a way to engage with your customers in more casual way, building your brand and customer loyalty.

Instagram

Instagram is perfect for businesses that know how to do great visuals. Whether its makeup, motorbikes, coffee or even succulents, Instagram users love to keep up with their favourite products no matter how niche. Another great benefit of Instagram is that it has a higher engagement rate than Facebook and it doesn’t have an expansive advertising algorithm, meaning more people can see when you post. For brand awareness and customer engagement Instagram takes the cake. But if you’re looking for conversions, keep in mind that Instagram users are younger, less affluent and to build that loyal following you’ll have to really work.

Snapchat

This is the world’s fastest growing social media platform. Users are of an even younger demographic than Instagram. It captures an idea and a moment instantly, which is perfect for businesses targeting the millennial generation. Influencers also commonly use this platform to connect with their followers. It’s also great for larger businesses using it in tangent with an event such as a PR stunt. One of the most recent, larger examples was SOHO’s use of the Game of Thrones filter to create hype before the season premier showing. For small local business, Facebook or Instagram may be better options.

Twitter

Internationally, Twitter is a fast-paced platform that is a great source for keeping current with world trends and the latest news. It gives brands a voice or say in what’s important in the world at a specific time. It can also be used to help launch a new product and see how customers review and feedback. Twitter in New Zealand is a lot slower-paced. It’s still a great way to connect with news and businesses and can be another link in the social media chain, however it is best use for larger corporates or social media influencers.
